Fab News - February 2009

Dear Fab Women

This month (February) we are having a FAB Drinks Party.  Well more of a get together and an opportunity for FAB Women to bring along a friend and enjoy some good company and hopefully some good wine.  The venue is The Duke of Edinburgh Hotel, Abbey Road, Barrow-in-Furness from 5.30 pm on Thursday 26th February.  This is a social event and we are hoping to run these at different venues throughout Furness on a bi monthly basis.   These social events will also be an opportunity for FAB Women to talk to the FAB Committee members:  Lizi Cassells, Kim Smith, Karen Johnson and Nicola Kell about any ideas they may have for the group.  At least two members of the FAB Committee will be present at every bi-monthly social.

If any FAB Women have any ideas/angles for a business column in the Evening Mail, please let Kim/FAB Secretary know.  Also, if you would like to make any changes to your profile on the web site, once again, please let Kim know.  www.fabwomenuk.org   Keep using the website to ensure we stay top of Google.

Fab Film in Barrow and Brazil
Fab Film Premiere

21st January 2009

It’s a FAB Film

In Barrow and Brazil

On Wednesday 28th January from 5.30 – 7.30 pm, at The Custom House, Abbey Road, Barrow-in-Furness, The Furness Association of Business Women are proud to present a special viewing of 'Migrant Stories', a  film produced by Alien Films, an offshoot of the Cumbria Multi-Cultural Women’s Network.

Alien Films was formed in 2008 when members of the Women's Network commenced training sessions in film techniques as part of a wider communications skills training exercise.  Vincent O"Brien, Principal Lecturer in Public Health at Cumbria University has been assisting Alien Films as part of his international research programme,’Visible Voice’, which enables different ethnic groups from around the world to produce short documentaries on issues that are important to them.

Whilst attending The World Social Forum in Brazil, Vincent plans to present the 'Migrant Stories’ film to an international audience, along with another film entitled ‘Reflections’, showing the effects the earlier film has had on members of the local community throughout Furness.

Lilliana Orzac, a member of Cumbria Multi-Cultural Women’s Network comments:  “As well as fun, it was very educational producing the two films.  The ladies were very forthcoming sharing their experiences and the feedback to date has been excellent.

”We are delighted to be able to show our  ‘Migrant Stories’ films to a wider audience both in Barrow and Brazil and I am sure everyone will enjoy this special screening”.

And, if that isn’t enough, to add to the excitement of the film premiere, FAB is hoping to set up a live video link with Vincent in Brazil to discuss the two parallel experiences.  This is an evening with an international theme not to be missed and all are welcome.   Fee to non members is £3, payable on the night.
